2021 New Varietal Tasting!

Today we’re walking you through a tasting of all our newly released vintages. We released our new vintages in February 2021, and could not be more thrilled with how they turned out. We’ve had wonderful feedback and are so excited that our customers love them as much as we do! We release new vintages a few times a year and are excited to share tasting notes and pairings with you today!

If you haven't already snagged our new vintages, be sure to pop over to our Wine Shop, the New Release Sample Pack is great for trying a little bit of each varietal! If you have some of our wines at home, try following along with this post for an at-home tasting of your own!

About Our Wine

As mentioned, we release new vintages a few times each year. The varietals vary depending on the time of year and we love to keep you on your toes with surprise new vintages (big surprises coming this summer)! Our current release includes 5 delicious varietals: Rosé, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Red Wine Blend. All of our wine is made with certified organic grapes from family-owned vineyards around the world. Each single-serve bottle is labeled with the vintage year, the location of the vintage, and a fun animal unique to the region the grapes are sourced from. The front of the bottle shows the animal sipping on some wine and the back shows the animal after a few drinks – a little tipsy!

Traditional Tasting Notes and Pairings

Rosé

It’s Rosé all-day season in our opinion. Warmer temps, sun shining, the perfect glass is of course Rosé! Our 2019 vintage is light and crisp. It appeals to both men and women thanks to its light style and is perfect for happy hour sips all summer long. It’salso great as a celebratory drink if you don’t feel like opening a full bottle of bubbles, individual Rosé servings all day!

Region: Languedoc, France

Grapes: Merlot + Cab

Vintage: 2019

Tasting Notes: This light and crisp Rosé is dry in style with a fresh and dainty nose of raspberry and strawberry. The palate once you sip is balanced with notes of apple, peaches, and rose petals.

Animal: The pink flamingo! Did you know that flamingos are native to the south of France? Pairings: We love pairing our Rosé with seafood, a cheese platter at happy hour, or spicy dishes!

Sauvignon Blanc

Sauv Blanc tends to be alove it or hate itvarietal. We are partial and love our Sauv Blanc, specifically because it has all the characteristics of a Marlborough region wine, without being overbearing. Wines from this region oftentimes can have strong components of grass and grapefruit. We are proud of the way our varietal captures all of these components in a very subtle, balanced way, which is notalways typical with white wines.

Region: Marlborough, New Zealand

Grapes: Sauvignon Blanc

Vintage: 2020

Tasting Notes: Our Sauvignon Blanc is a beautiful aromatic blend of citrus zest, lemongrass, and nettles. The palate is pure and crisp with generous fruit flavors and a fresh, dry finish!

Animal: Our Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from the renowned Marlborough region in New
Zealand and has a super cute kiwi on the front label. The kiwi is the national icon of NZ and
unofficial national emblem. Fun fact: the kiwi is a flightless bird and a symbol for the
uniqueness of New Zealand wildlife. Today, New Zealanders are often called ‘Kiwis, ’a
nickname bestowed on them by Australian soldiers in the First World War.

Pairings: Sauvignon Blanc and sushi is the move!! We also love pairing this with alight white
fish, oysters, lighter cheeses and crackers.

Chardonnay

Traditional Chardonnay tasting notes span from lemon zest and chalky to baked apple and
buttery. We love our Chard because it covers the many components of Chardonnay on both the
acidic and buttery side of tasting notes!

We’ve had amazing feedback from wine drinkers who
are not traditionally huge fans of whites sharing that they are big fans of this Chard! This
vintage is aged 3 months in French Oak which contributes to some of the tasting notes. You
can learn more about the various aging processes for white varietals in our previous blog post
on The Aging Process!

Region: California, United States

Grapes: Chardonnay

Vintage: 2019

Tasting Notes: This bright Chardonnay unleashes aromas of pear and apricot with hints of nuts
and vanilla. The palate is rich, slightly buttery, and has the perfect amount of toast.

Animal: The California Grizzly Bear! It has been the official state animal since 1953!

Pairings: We love pairing our Chard with traditional chicken dishes to elevate your weeknight
dinners, it also pairs wonderfully with sea bass, shrimp scampi and any type of seafood!

Cabernet Sauvignon

High value for your buck on this varietal! Our Cab is delicious on its own and tastes like an
expensive red bottle that goes for $75-$100. It is barrel-aged in French Oak for 12 months.
We’ll let you in on a little secret…we actually put some of our winemaking skills to the test on
this vintage. We added a tiny bit of the newest vintage (2020) to this varietal, not enough to
legally affect the vintage but just enough to make it truly explode in your mouth. The secret
sauce so to speak!

Different regions have different laws around mixing vintages, and in
California 90% of the wine has to be the wine of the particular vintage while 10% can be
blended from other vintages. For this particular 2018 vintage, we were able to add a small
amount of flair to make all the difference!

Region: California, United States

Grapes: Cab Sauv

Vintage: 2018

Tasting Notes: This Cabernet offers beautiful aromas of cherry and spice. In the glass, you’ll
find red berry flavors with notes of toasted oak and vanilla!

Animal: A seal!! These cuties are “eared seals” that are native to the West Coast of North
America. They are easily trained and very intelligent. California sea lions are playful, intelligent,
and very vocal!

Pairings: This glass is delicious on its own, it is also superb with big red meats like lamb, bison,
and steak and as well as full-bodied cheeses.

Red Wine Blend

This varietal is near and dear to the Wander + Ivy team. It is an OG varietal and we’ve been
collaborating with a single-family vineyard in Valencia since the beginning of Wander + Ivy

Unique to this vintage is our blend of 55% Bobaland 45% Merlot, you’re not alone if you have
never heard of Bobal, it is a grape native to the region of Valencia. We love this blend because it
is so different from most blends and like our Cab Sauv has a high value for what you get in a
single glass!

Region: Valencia, Spain

Grapes: Bobal + Merlot

Vintage: 2019

Tasting Notes: This blend has red fruit aromas with subtle toasted notes. It is medium-bodied,
fresh, and balanced on the palate with hints of chocolate and spice!

Animal: A Spanish bull! In Spain, bulls represent strength!

Pairings: Pizza, paella and grilled meats are go to parings. The hints of chocolate in the tasting
notes make this a delicious dessert pairing with your favorite chocolate!
