Can you Share Your Founders Story?

Kerry shared that she is very much an “intrapreneur”, meaning she incubated William Murray Golf under another company with her Co-Founder. The other company was The Chive, which you may be familiar with. The Chive is a large media company, that happens to have licensure for Bill Murray apparel. One of their most popular offerings at the time was for “BFM” short for “Bill F****** Murray” T-shirts.

The founders of The Chive decided they wanted to do a Golf apparel line with Bill Murray, and the more research Kerry did, the more it became a lightbulb moment. Everyone remembers Caddy Shack, it was shocking that Bill Murray did not have a golf line yet. Outside of the movie, Bill and his brothers are all major golfers, have all been inducted in The Caddy Hall of Fame, and all grew up caddying. At any given time, one of the Murray's are most likely out there golfing

If you google “Bill Murray golf” you’ll see he wears a lot of fun outfits on the course. That was what inspired Kerry and her Co-Founder, and so they started building what this brand could look like. At the time, there were not a lot of brands with bright fun colors and a focus on apparel.

Many golf brands were solely focused on the athlete sponsorship component.

What advice would you give to yourself on Day 1 of starting your business?

“At the end of the day, trust your gut and your intuition and continue to lean into those thoughts.”

Kerry emphasized, “Everyone wants to give you advice, and there’s so much to be said for that. The advice might be really great, but it doesn’t mean it has to apply to you and your business.”

How do you define work-life balance?
“I don’t know that there is a perfect balance.” Kerry shared that she has missed out on a lot of things, and at the end of the day doing her best and building a company makes her really happy, so it’s worth the sacrifices.

“There isn’t always a perfect balance, you just have to find the right balance for you!” She also noted that this changes week to week, month to month, year to year so try not to be too hard on yourself.

Favorite sip + snack? (Favorite wine, other alcohol or non-alcoholic beverage and pairing!)

“If I’m in a wine mood-a wine, cheese, bread, and olive oil situation is great. I usually go for a Pinot Grigio or Pinot Noir. If I’m not in a wine mood, it’s chips, salsa, and a margarita.” We love those sips + snacks, yum!!
